Co-villagers gang rape two dalit minors in Bihar’s Araria; two arrested
The three accused called the girls out of their home on the pretext of taking them to the village fair, where the elders of their family had gone earlier.
ARARIA In a continuing series of such incidents in Bihar, two dalit minor girls were allegedly gang-raped by three persons, at a village under Fulkaha police station of Araria district in in north-eastern Bihar, about 300 km east of state capital, Patna.
The girls, both aged 14 years and cousins, were allegedly raped by their co-villagers, all in their 20s. The incident took place on Tuesday but came to light only on Thursday after the matter was reported to the police by the victims’ family members.
Confirming the incident, station house officer (SHO) of Fulkaha police station Shyam Nandan Yadav said two of the accused had been arrested on Thursday and the girls had been sent for their medical examination, to the district headquarters town, also known as Araria.
The two accused were arrested on Thursday after the brother of the victims lodged an FIR at the Furkaha police station. Search was on for the third accused till the time last reports came in.
This was the third incident of gang rape of minors in Bihar this year.
Earlier, in January this year, a 12-year-old student of a government school was allegedly gang-raped by the principal and three teachers, in Jehanabad district of southern Bihar.,
Again, in February, angry protesters blocked roads in a Supaul (north Bihar) village, after a minor was raped and murdered in a grocery store. The protestors pelted stones at the police station and set several cars ablaze, while expressing their anger over the incident.
In the FIR lodged on Thursday, the victims’ brother said the three accused persons came to their house on two motorbikes and told the girls to accompany them to watch a folk drama performance in the village, where their parents had gone earlier.
“They took the girls to a lonely spot where all three raped them. After the incident they left the girls at their house with a warning not to reveal the matter to anybody”, the victims’ brother stated in the FIR.
