The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is conducting a separate probe into the missing coal block allocations scam files, may inform the Supreme Court that it has received all the relevant files.

The CBI may also recommend the closure of the two Preliminary Enquiries (PE) it had lodged in September last to probe why the files went missing and to ascertain if there was any criminality involved.

The agency’s probe has not found any incriminating evidence that establishes any criminality on the part of coal ministry officials, says a source.

The agency had registered two PEs to look into the issue of missing files. One was for the period between 1993 and 2005 and another was for the period 2006-09. The update on its missing-files probe will be mentioned in the agency’s status report on its coal scam probe that will be submitted to the apex court on Thursday.

Besides, the agency would also give an update on the probe status of the 14 cases files in the coal scam till now and the number of allocations under its purview.
