The Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS) will open the College of Dairy Science and Technology at its Hisar campus from the next academic session.
The academic council of the university on Monday passed a resolution to open the new college. LUVAS vice-chancellor Maj Gen Shri Kant Sharma (retd), who presided over the meeting, later told the media that the proposal would be placed in the next meeting of the board of management and the admissions for the new college were likely to commence in the next academic session. "Initially, the college will have 30 seats for the bachelor's degree," Sharma said.
On an indefinite strike of students against the opening of a private veterinary college at Bahu Akbarpur village in Rohtak district, the V-C said, "Their grouse is directed at the Haryana government that has opened the private veterinary college. The students have met the officer on special duty (OSD) to the chief minister and he has asked them to first call off their strike."
Sharma, however, said that under a new policy, the government had decided to open more private veterinary colleges to meet the demand for veterinarians."
