Congress candidate Sunder Singh Miya won the elections to the director of Himachal Pradesh State Co-operative Milk Producers Federation Limited (Milkfed) held here on Wednesday.Miya secured 20 votes against 14 received by Congress rebel Dharam Singh.

The BJP had not filed the nomination for the post, but was supporting the Congress rebel. BJP senior leader Baldev Bhandari, who had lost the elections for the same post of HP State Cooperative Bank a few weeks ago, did not file the papers for the Milfed election.

Bhandari had been continuously representing Milkfed in the district for the past 15 years.Despite revolt in the party, loyalist of former speaker Gangu Ram Mussafir succeeded in winning the election.

Sources said the BJP was trying to capture the seat by dividing the Congress but failed to do so.National cashier of the Kisan Morcha Bhandari also exercised his franchise in the election on Wednesday. All 34 voters cast their votes in the election. The voters play a key role during the election of chairman and while framing the policies of Milkfed.

Returning officer of the election Virender Kumar said Sunder Singh of Rajgarh was declared elected.
