The BJP has taken a strong objection to the telecast of entire speeches of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by Doordarshan on the ground that this violated the election code of conduct as they were watched by people in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh where Assembly polls are scheduled

The party charged the Congress with attempting to divert public attention from the “failures” of their government and party on various fronts. The saffron party objected to Sonia’s allegation that the BJP played an “obstructionist” role in politics, saying that it reflected her “undemocratic mindset”.

Referring to Rahul Gandhi’s much-talked-about debut appearance at the AICC session, Prasad said the BJP did not perceive any threat from the development as “we do not feel that he has the potential to lead the nation.”
