Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday asked for the constitution of an “official” committee to address the concerns of people from the Andhra-Rayalaseema regions.

The TDP chief lashed out at the Congress for “messing up” the sensitive issue of the division of Andhra Pradesh by pushing through a “unilateral and hasty” decision without taking all stakeholders into confidence.

“The four-member AK Antony committee is an internal one of the Congress party. Why would we present our case to it? As people of the (Andhra-Rayalaseema) regions are grossly agitated, the Centre should constitute an official committee and talk to all stakeholders to resolve the issue amicably,” Naid u told reporters.

The Congress had last week set up a four-member committee headed by defence minister AK Antony to address the concerns arising out of the decision to create Telangana.

He said the division of the state was an emotive issue, which the Congress government had “miserably” failed to handle.

“People (in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema) are emotionally disturbed as the Congress sought to stoke fire among the Telugu people, forgetting that it is in power (at the Centre) since 2004 solely because of them. The Congress, which does not believe in democracy, is trying to derive sadistic pleasure,” he said.

J-K law does not allow defections

While defections are common in other states especially when there is no clear majority for any party, in Jammu and Kashmir, where election has thrown up a hung assembly, it is not an option for parties to increase its strength.
