Gorakhpur district unit of the Congress on Sunday released a poster showing party’s CM face in UP Sheila Dikshit as ‘goddess of development’.
The poster also carries caricatures of leaders from other political parties with a caption: ‘Save us from Congress tsunami’.
The party’s slogan for UP assembly polls ‘27 saal, UP behaal’ finds mention at the top of the poster. The slogan aims to underscore last 27 years of ‘poor governance’ in the state by non-Congress governments. The Congress has been out of power in UP since 1989.
The Congress workers visited several areas of the city with the poster garnering support for Sheila Dikshit and the party for 2017 UP assembly polls.
“Sheila Dikshit is the first choice for CM among voters of the state. She proved herself by ensuring development of Delhi while she was the chief minister there for three consecutive terms from 1998 to 2013,” said party’s district general secretary Anwar Hussain.
“During the last 27 years of rule in the state, the SP, the BJP and the BSP did nothing to ensure development here. Instead, their governments gave rise to corruption, unemployment and crime in the state. People of Uttar Pradesh want a change now and so they will surely vote the Congress to power in 2017 polls,” he added. District president of the party Syed Jamal also expressed similar views.
