An official statement from the party said: "Makwana has been publicly criticising the policies and functioning of the party for a long time, which amounts to gross indiscipline."

"The party has taken a serious view of his conduct and consequently, the Congress president has relieved him of the chairmanship of the SC department with immediate effect," the statement said.

Meanwhile, party spokesperson Shakeel Ahmad told reporters: "We also have information that he (Makwana) is going to float a political party with himself as its president."
