The war of words between the RJD leadership and BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi (SuMo), over financial gains made through allegedly unexplained means by members of Lalu Prasad’s family, moved a step further on Monday, as the RJD chief launched a renewed offensive against his bete noire.
On Sunday, former deputy chief minister Modi had accused the RJD leadership of pressurising his relatives to force him to stop exposing instances of financial gains made through ‘dubious’ means by members of the family of Lalu Prasad.
Just hours later, early on Monday, the RJD chief took to online news and social networking service twitter to get back at SuMo, who has been making ‘revelations’ about his family over the past fortnight.
Prasad asked Modi to explain his relationship with Raj Kumar Modi, a realtor. “You call him a relative, speak up whether RK Modi is your mausa (uncle - husband of mother’s sister) or fufa (uncle - husband of father’s sister)? The ambit of relatives is large. Don’t declare your own brother as a relative,” he tweeted on Monday.

The RJD chief’s tweet was in response to Modi’s tweet on Sunday, in which the latter had said, “Lalu has started putting pressure on my relatives so that I stop exposing Lalu. I can’t be blackmailed by convicted lalu.”

Also on Sunday, RJD national spokesperson Manoj Jha had released documents related to RK Modi’s construction company, Ashiana Homes Private Limited, and had accused the Modi brothers of indulging in ‘money laundering’, in league with ‘shell’ company owner Lalit Kumar Chhawchharia.
At a press conference, Jha had wondered how RK Modi’s firm managed to get a Rs 400 crore loan at 1% interest for Ashiana Homes. Jha had also asked Modi to disclose the names of investors in convertible and non convertible debentures worth Rs 171 crore, raised by RK Modi’s company.

Last week, Sushil Modi had alleged that Prasad’s family had acquired a huge residential property worth Rs 100 crore through a ‘front ‘ company, AB Exports, at a ‘throwaway price’ at New Friend’s Colony in New Delhi. Earlier, he had also spoken of irregularities in the involvement of Prasad’s family in the construction of a shopping mall in the outskirts of Patna..
