The BJP tided over the presidential quandary on Tuesday, but a day later another storm began in its first government down south.
Former Karnataka CM BS Yeddyurappa’s war against the Jagadish Shettar government began in earnest with the resignations of two of his loyalists — CM Udasi (PWD minister) and Shobha Karandlaje (energy minister) — on Wednesday. Eleven more resignations are on their way.
As the news spread, speaker KG Bopaiah ‘disappeared’ – apparently to Nepal under orders from BJP leadership to avoid accepting the resignations.
Thereafter 13 MLAs requested governor HR Bhardwaj to take steps for their resignations to be accepted. Shettar said he would take a decision over the resignations after consulting the BJP central leadership.
