CS okays Rs. 5 cr for restoration of services in Poonch

Chief secretary Muhammad Iqbal Khanday on Tuesday reviewed the restoration of essential services and infrastructure in Poonch district, which got damaged due to recent snowstorm in Pir Panjal ranges, during a high-level meeting on disaster management in the state.


The chief secretary directed constitution of a verification committee headed by the divisional commissioner, Jammu, to evaluate the assistance plan submitted by the district administration.

The assistance plan comprises financial assistance to sectors such as PHE, PWD, power transmission and electric maintenance, which were badly damaged in the snowstorm.

Khanday, as an interim assistance, directed release of Rs. 5 crore to the district administration for the restoration of essential services. He directed the Poonch deputy commissioner to ensure restoration under his own supervision.

The chief secretary also asked the Jammu divisional commissioner to furnish a complete list of cases under SRO-43 so that the same are examined for ex gratia assistance.

Khanday also directed immediate sanctioning of relief amount to the livestock owners of Leh whose cattle perished in hailstorm in Changthang area of the district.

The chief secretary also reviewed the setting up of emergency centres in case of disasters at Srinagar and Jammu cities.

He asked officials concerned to make the requisite equipment available for these centres, which are in vogue globally.
