BJP expels Daya Shankar from party for comparing Mayawati to prostitute

The BJP’s vice-president in Uttar Pradesh was expelled from the party for six years on Wednesday for comparing Dalit leader and four-time chief minister Mayawati to a prostitute , a remark that triggered political outrage and a demand for his arrest. Read more here

Hyderabad boys burn alive three puppies, another shoots dead a dog

In Hyderabad, two videos have emerged of dogs being killed in cruel ways. In the first case, a group of boys burnt three puppies alive, filmed their act and posted it on Facebook. Later in the day, another video of animal cruelty surfaced on social media in which a man is seen shooting dogs with an airgun. While one of the dogs scurries away, squealing in pain, another dog collapses to the ground after being shot. Read more here

Rape survivor moves Supreme Court for legally aborting foetus

A 26-year-old rape survivor has moved the Supreme Court, seeking permission to terminate her 24-week pregnancy because the law does not allow her to do so. The woman has challenged the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act (MTP) that puts a ceiling on abortion, even if there is a fatal risk to the mother and foetus. Read more here
