Dehradun: Senior BJP leader and former chief minister Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Monday sought to downplay former MP Bacchi Singh Rawat’s resignation from all party posts saying candidates have not been decided for any of the five Lok Sabha seats in Uttarakhand as yet and hence there was no question of Rawat being ignored. He also claimed that there was no ill between him and Rawat.

Koshyari, the party’s likely candidate from Nainital Lok Sabha seat for 2014 general elections, claimed that Bachhi Singh Rawat was not well informed about the issue and he has not resigned from the party as was being highlighted by a section of media. Koshyari dispelled any fear of rebellion by its four-time Lok Sabha MP and stated, “Rawat has himself claimed that he is a loyal soldier of the party and will never leave the party.”
“There is no question of rebellion or dissent by Bachhi Singh Rawat. His action will not have any ill impact on party’s prospects from Nainital as he has not resigned from the organisation. However, his statement of shunning the party posts was mainly due to miscommunication between him and state unit,” said Koshyari.
“The party’s parliamentary board may take a final call on candidates from the seats in Uttarakhand on March 13. Bacchi Singh Rawat is one of the pillars whose contribution to the party cannot be forgotten. The party’s highest decision making body will definitely discuss with him all the points before finalising nominees from Uttarakhand,” leader of opposition Ajay Bhatt said.
Controversy erupted on Sunday after Bachhi Singh announced that he has resigned from all posts of the party in protest against non-inclusion of his name among probable candidates from Nainital Lok Sabha segment. Rawat claimed that state parliamentary board’s decision to send three-member panel was not followed. Rawat alleged that only one name was sent in place of three thereby violating the party norms.
However, BJP state president Tirath Singh Rawat said that Rawat’s name was also in the list that was sent to the central leadership the other day.
