After Meghalaya, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand will be the fourth state where the Congress will use para motor gliders for campaigning.

Para motor gliders will help Lok Sabha candidates reach 30 to 40 remote villages in a day.

Given the time campaigning time the party has lost due to the delay in announcing the names of the candidates, the leaders feel gliders will help cover all five constituencies in the least possible time. Plus, it will be cheaper than helicopters and the novelty will help attract young voters.

The party has sought the Election Commission’s permission to allow the use of the two-seater flying machines, which will be used to carry poll material.

“Para-motor gliders can cover more than 100 to 130km a day at a much lower cost. Besides, they can drop poll material flying as low as 50m above the ground,” said Nikolai Singh, a pilot who will fly the motor gliders for Congress candidates.

“The first flight will take place from Dehradun to Rishikesh on April 11.” “We hope getting permission from the EC will not be a problem,” said party spokesperson Surinder Kumar Aggarwal.
