No amount of security or barricades could stop this visitor from entering the State Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand near Roshanabad. But once factory workers became aware of his presence on Saturday morning it was chaos and panic through and through.
About 10 hours and three injured workers later, the forest department are still trying to nab the visitor — a leopard. It had just entered the warehouse of the cloth factory around 10am, when some factory workers saw it.
Curious, three of them followed it into the warehouse, only to be greeted with jabs of the mighty paw, resulting in deep wounds and perhaps an escalated hospital bill. The workers ran out of the warehouse, pulled the shutter down, and eventually were admitted to a hospital.
Till the time of going to press, the forest department was still trying to catch the wild cat with a cage and tranquilisers. “We are revisiting the site with wildlife experts and doctors. Since it is a closed warehouse with just one small opening on the roof, it is difficult to visualise the activities of the leopard. The rescue operation will take some time,” said sub-divisional officer, Chilla range, BS Tomar.
However, wildlife warden of the Chilla range ND Sharma said, “We will catch the animal. The operation will start after 8pm when the factories around are closed and all the workers would be headed home.”
