Maharaj’s entry will ensure victory in LS polls, say BJP leaders

Dehradun: All BJP factions welcomed Satpal Maharaj when he arrived at the state party office here on Wednesday for the first time after joining the BJP in New Delhi on March 21.

BJP leaders and MLAs from all the three major factions were present at the function to welcome Maharaj. Party workers cheered and shouted slogans. The battery of party leaders present included former chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, state party president Teerath Singh Rawat, leader of the opposition in the state assembly Ajay Bhatt, former BJP president Prakash Pant considered to be members of Bhagat Singh Koshyari camp, Tehri Lok Sabha MP and party’s official nominee from Tehri Mala Rajya Lakshmi Shah, former Assembly speaker and local BJP MLA Harbans Kapoor, Sahaspur MLA Sahdev Singh Pundir, and Dehradun Mayor Vinod Chamoli and a large number of BJP workers.

BJP leaders said the saffron party would suit him. They claimed that Maharaj’s coming into BJP fold will be of great help to the party and cement its victory in the parliamentary elections.

State BJP chief Teerath Singh Rawat said, “We are lucky that Satpal Maharaj has joined the BJP. He should have joined us way back. He added, “They failed to understand your feelings for the state but now we assure you that the BJP government will address the issues raised by you for the state.” Former chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank expressed similar views. He said Maharaj’s coming to BJP will help the party in many ways. He added, “Lakhs of your supporters have reposed their faith in the BJP as you have joined. This has given the Congress party a shock and put the government on shaky ground. We can’t say for how many days the present Congress regime will survive now that you have joined the BJP,” said Nishank.

Tehri Lok Sabha MP Mala Rajya Lakshmi Shah said, “Maharaj’s joining the BJP will strengthen the party in a big way. We wanted his blessings but it was not possible earlier.” Maharaj thanked the BJP leaders for welcoming him. He said he has joined the party without any pre-conditions.

“My only aim is to ensure that Narendra Modi becomes the Prime Minister and the BJP wins all five constituencies in the state. Congress has failed secure the boundaries of the country from China and Pakistan,” he said.derstand your feelings for the state but now we assure you that the BJP government will address the issues raised by you for the state.”

Former chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank expressed similar views. He said Maharaj’s coming to BJP will help the party in many ways. Maharaj thanked the BJP leaders for welcoming him.
