Several Doonites were left disappointed on Wednesday when they were not able to cast their votes. For, many people’s names were missing in the voter list.

Many of them had voter ID cards but had to go back without getting their fingers inked as their names did not figure in the rolls.

Retired DIG Harish Sharma says that seven members of his family including himself were unable to cast their votes this time.

Sharma says that he had started the process of getting his name entered in the electoral rolls since December last year. “I had filled up the relevant forms and had been assured by the officials that my name would be entered in the rolls soon, but it did not happen,” he said.

Mukesh Joshi, who lives near IT Park, says that his wife’s name was missing in the voter list. “We had voted the last time in the local body elections without any hassles,” he said.

State agitationist Pradeep Kukreti says that around 10% of the voters of Rajeev Nagar were not able to cast their votes due to discrepancies in the voter list.

“I searched my name online in the voter list, but found out that names of other people were there on my address,” Kukreti said.

“I then called the election office. They told me that the booth level officer (BLO) was responsible for that. I have now filed a complaint at the DM office,” he added.

Defending the poll officials, deputy chief election officer Saujanya says that the electoral rolls are under constant revision and it is the duty of the voters to ensure that their names are included on time. “The election department had taken all measures to update the voter list on time,” says Saujanya.
