A 50-year-old businessman was found brutally murdered at his central Delhi residence on Wednesday evening, police said.
The incident was reported from F block in New Rajender Nagar – a stone’s throw from the local police station and barely four kilometres from parliament – around 6pm.
The police identified the victim as Tarun Bajaj, a cable operator of ‘influence’. He was discovered in a pool of blood with multiple stab injuries on his body when his wife returned home from work.
“While it could be a murder committed solely to eliminate the victim, we are probing all angles,” said Sandeep Goel, joint commissioner of police (central range).
The police said Bajaj was naked with blood gushing from his stomach and neck when his wife arrived. Sources said the victim’s stomach had been ripped apart so brutally that his intestines were protruding.
Bajaj’s wife is employed as a lawyer with Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC). The couple did not have any children.
“Prima facie, it seems that the murder was committed by someone known to the family, as there are no signs of forced entry or exit,” said an investigating officer.
