Ending a long-drawn legal case, the Delhi High Court on Tuesday declared veteran Congress leader Narayan Dutt Tiwari as the biological father of 32-year-old Rohit Shekhar.
Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw also restrained Tiwari from disowning Shekhar as his natural born son.
The HC’s decision came after Shekhar and his 67-year-old mother Ujjwala Sharma informed the court that Tiwari had publicly admitted Shekhar as his natural born son on March 4. They also submitted newspaper reports in support of their claim.
It also took note of the report of 89-year-old's DNA test, which had established long back that was Shekhar was biologically linked to him.
In its decree, the HC remarked that the Congress leader’s counsel were not present in court despite being informed about the proceedings. It appeared that Tiwari did not want to fight the suit filed against him by Shekhar, the HC noted.
Shekhar and his mother had filed the paternity suit way back in 2008 claiming Tiwari as Shekhar’s biological father. Tiwari, however, had refuted the claim and filed various pleas against interim orders in the high court and in the Supreme Court.
However, on March 4, at a press conference here, Tiwari accepted Shekhar as his son.
