Around 10.30am, a passerby spotted an unclaimed blue iron box lying at a crowded place and raised alarm. A call to the police control room was made by another onlooker.
A team of from the ISBT Anand Vihar police chowki reached the spot and cordoned off the area. The forensic team along with the crime investigation unit also reached the spot and broke open the locked iron box.
“We were shocked to see a woman’s body lying inside the box. She was wearing a mangalsutra and red clothes. The body was decomposed and was giving off a foul smell,” said Hare Ram, a porter who was present on the spot.
A deep gash was found on her head. The body has been sent to a government hospital for autopsy.
Police stations across Delhi and NCR have also been alerted about the crime.
