Uttar Pradesh has cleared the names of a dozen bureaucrats for central deputation, one of whom is Durga Shakti Nagpal who once incurred the wrath of the state government for ordering the wall of a place of worship demolished.
After getting their no-objection certificates (NOC), the officers are now waiting for the Centre to begin the process of appointments.
“Although there are a number of vacancies at the secretary, additional secretary and various other levels at the Centre – the officers are waiting for the process of appointments to start at the Centre,” said a senior officer of the state government.
Significantly many of the names that had been doing the rounds for key positions in the Union government have not yet applied for NOCs.
This is in sharp contrast to the general perception that the list of officers applying for deputation is swelling. "True, a number of state’s IAS officers are keen to proceed on central or interstate deputation. Yet, many of them want to explore options," said another officer.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inducted six ministers from the state in his government. But not many IAS officers from the state have got an appointment as Private Secretary to Union ministers or as secretaries/additional secretaries in Union ministries.
