What are the sons of former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and chief ministers Vasundhara Raje and Raman Singh doing in the Lok Sabha, asks Congress spokesperson.

The Congress on Monday hit back at Amit Shah for his remark against Rahul Gandhi and the party that they believed in “dynasty and appeasement” politics, and asked the BJP chief to look within before pointing fingers at others.

“We would like to ask those who talk about dynasty politics that if BJP does not believe in dynasties what are the sons of former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and chief ministers Vasundhara Raje and Raman Singh doing in the Lok Sabha,” Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari told reporters.

He said, “Before pointing fingers at others, the BJP chief should first look within”.

In his inaugural address at the BJP’s national executive meeting earlier in the day, Shah accused the Congress of believing in the politics of appeasement and dynasty and claimed BJP follows politics of performance.

Congress communications incharge Randeep Surjewala said a “rattled” BJP president and his party should shed its “fear and obsession” with Rahul Gandhi and answer questions.

On Shah’s charge of Congress pursuing appeasement politics, Tewari said the party believes in secularism and equality, and that is why during the 10 years of UPA government there was no social tension.

He accused the BJP-led government at the Centre of having “destroyed” communal harmony through contentious issues like cow protection, ghar wapsi and love jihad.

Tewari said be it the issue of the nation’s federal structure, internal security or economy, the Modi government has “failed completely”.

He claimed the government had failed to deliver on even a single promise made before the 2014 elections.

The Congress leader blamed the Modi government for “communal tension” and the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

“In 40 months, Narendra Modi has made it clear that he does not know how to run the government or the country.

“In the remaining 20 months, they have no other strategy except doing religious polarisation and (flaring) communal tensions. The country should be aware of their designs of polarising society,” he said.

On his part, Surjewala asked what happened to the BJP’s promise of creating two crore jobs, and wanted to know how many new jobs opportunities the government has created in the last three-and-a-half years. “Why is ‘Make in India’ floundering?” he asked.

He also wanted to know why the government was “burning holes” in the pockets of common people by “profiteering” from fuel prices. He claimed the government raked in a “windfall” of Rs 2,67,000 crore from these.

“Will Amit Shahji ever talk on price rise which has started squeezing the hard earned money of people? Why is consumption down, Inflation up?

“Will Amit Shah bother to speak about his government shooting innocent farmers? What about manifesto promise of MSP +50 pc cost of production?” Surjewala said in a series of tweets, and accused the Modi government of having “mastered the art of economic mismanagement”.

He wanted to know why has India’s status of being the fastest growing large economy got “reversed”.

Calling demonetisation the “biggest scam”, he accused the government of “flawed and shoddy” implementation of the GST.

Apparently referring to the police action against students at the BHU, he asked, “Why are BJP governments indulging in suppression and oppression of our youth? Why has BJP become chief collaborator in violence against students?.”
