An educational-cum-motivational tour 'Sair-e-Watan' for sarpanches and panches of 25 villages in Ramban district was flagged off from Chanderkot (Ramban) here on Sunday.

Rashtriya Rifles Battalion based in Nachlana under counter insurgency force (Delta) will organise the tour concluding on October 31 for the development of villages in Khari bowl through operation Sadbhavana.

The panchayat representatives would visit villages in Amritsar and Jaipur, which are a hub of development and progress in the field of agriculture, welfare and civic action.

They would also get an opportunity to interact with their counterparts and officials of various civic bodies to gain first-hand information on the activities being undertaken by the village panchayats so as to undertake similar measures in transforming their existing society into an absolute self-reliant one.

They were encouraged to make maximum use of this opportunity to interact and exchange views, ideas and thoughts with their counterparts in the state of Punjab and Rajasthan, which would further enable them to implement various projects and undertake developmental work in their area.

Sarpanches and panches would also visit various places of historical interest such as the Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, Hawa Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Amer Fort, Jantar Mantar in Jaipur and Rashtrapati Bhavan, India Gate, Jama Masjid and Red Fort in Delhi.

J-K law does not allow defections

While defections are common in other states especially when there is no clear majority for any party, in Jammu and Kashmir, where election has thrown up a hung assembly, it is not an option for parties to increase its strength.
