Eight gang members held on burglary charge

The police on Saturday arrested eight members of a gang on a charge of committing more than 15 thefts in the city in the past few months.

"On a tip-off, the crime investigation agency (CIA) conducted a raid at Urban Estate, situated on the outskirts of the city and arrested eight members of the gang. During interrogation, they confessed to have committed at least 15 thefts in the city," senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vivek Sharma told the media. Police have said that the accused would be produced in court on Sunday to seek police remand.

The accused have been identified as Mukesh, Vipin, Sonu, Jitender, Ravi, Amit, Hanuman and Satish, all residents of this district. The police have said that the accused used to identify locked houses in localities near the national highway-10 during the day, and sneaked into houses during the night to steal.

The police have seized a gun stolen from a house in Dev Colony here, Rs. 40,000 in cash and gold ornaments from their possession.
