A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Do Jama Paanch Mudde Jan Andolan (a campaign for seven issues), has sought the intervention of Congress president Sonia Gandhi for restoration of 25% reservation in private schools of Haryana.
In a press release, NGO chief Satvir Singh said that 25% seats were reserved for economically weaker section (EWS) students in private schools under Rule 134-A of the Haryana School Education Act, 1995, and Rules 2003. "The state government snatched the rights of poor students to get education in private schools by reducing reservation from 25% to 10%.
This will affect the underprivileged and Dalit students, whose interest the Congress claims to safeguard. The government's move to reduce the seats comes at a time when the Punjab and Haryana high court is monitoring the enforcement of Rule 134-A," Singh said.
He said they had written to the Congress president, seeking an audience and her intervention in the issue of public interest.Meanwhile, Sandeep Singh of the NGO said that due to their efforts, the directorate of elementary education, Haryana, has started a toll free number 1800-3010-0110, where the affected school children could lodge their complaints.
