A youngster shot a woman dead after befriending her on social networking website Facebook without knowing that she was married and was also a mother of three children.

Vinit Kumar, 25, who hailed from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh (UP), had come to Jabalpur on Friday to meet Jyoti Kori, 44 as he was infatuated with her. The police said they went to Bhedaghat where he learnt that she was married.

After finding out that the ‘girl’ with whom he interacted regularly on Facebook for the last 2-3 months is a married woman who has three children, the youth felt betrayed and was shocked. The ‘betrayal’ angered him so much that he shot her with a country-made revolver.

The bullet hit her in the chest and she died on the spot. The incident occurred on Friday night. After killing her, Kumar shot himself too on the road side. The passersby called an ambulance that took him to a government hospital where he succumbed to the injuries on Saturday morning.

However, before his death, the police recorded his statement. Jyoti’s body was recovered from bushes near Dhuadhar. The country-made revolver was also found. He had left home telling his family members that he was going to Delhi in search of work, SP Harinarayanchari Mishra said. However, instead of going to Delhi, he came to Jabalpur to meet Jyoti. Jyoti was shot dead from point blank range, Mishra said.
