Farmers in the district have started sowing Rabi crops, mainly wheat, after the district received plentiful rain on Thursday night.

Around 15 mm of rain was recorded during the night in various parts of the district.

Ramesh Chaudhry of Rangas area said fields were wet and ready for ploughing operations and thereafter sowing the seeds.
He added that timely arrival of rain was likely to help farmers.

In the district, rabi and kharif crops are sown on 35,000 hectares every year.

As wheat is the main crop of the district along with maize, farmers take no chance in sowing their crops. They started sowing in time to make full use of moisture in the soil.

A spokesman for the department of agriculture said the departments had already dispatched high-yielding variety seeds of wheat in plenty to various agriculture-based societies in the district for further distribution among farmers of respective areas.

He said more seed would be dispatched as the demand of such seed was increasing every day.
