Three Tamil Nadu-based persons were killed when the car they were travelling in collided with a bus coming from Rupnagar on the Jalandhar-Chandigarh highway (NH-344A) at Bharthala village near Kathgarh town of SBS Nagar (Nawanshahr) district in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as B Ravichandran, V Ashoka and P Swami of Chennai. Their friend R Chandran and driver Manoj Kumar of Jalandhar received injuries and have been admitted to a hospital.
Police said four youths from Tamil Nadu were going to Chandigarh after paying obeisance at the Golden Temple in Tata Indica (PB08-BN-4314). While crossing Bharthala village bus stop, the car driver couldn’t spot the tourist bus (JK02-AW-1827) coming from the Rupnagar side due to dense fog and collided with it.
The victims were to catch a flight from the Chandigarh airport to Chennai on Tuesday at 10am.
A case under Sections 304-A (causing death by negligence), 427 (mischief causing damage), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against bus driver who is yet to be identified.
The police have informed the family members of victims in Chennai and bodies have been kept at the mortuary in the civil hospital.
