A blaze damaged the office of the J&K tourism department on Sunday. Police said the fire broke out in the office of the tourism director in the afternoon.

"There was some damage to the building but fortunately, there was no loss of life or injury," a police spokesman said.

He said that cause of the blaze was being ascertained. Officials said the records of the tourism department were safe.

The building lies in the heart of capital Srinagar, just adjacent to a place which once used to house the tourist reception centre.

In 2005, the centre was gutted in an encounter of security forces with militants.
