Fire breaks out near missile test range in Chandipur

A fire broke out on Monday in an ammunition testing facility of the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) in Odisha.

People leaving nearby were immediately evacuated and fire fighters rushed to the spot to prevent the spread of fire.

A DRDO spokesperson said the incidence of fire was noticed in the ammunition storage area of Proof and Experiment Establishment (PXE) in Chandipur, about 200  km east of Bhubaneswar, at around 4 am, but promptly brought under control within two hours.

"There was no harm to any individual or damage to the surrounding buildings/ facilities," Ravi Kumar Gupta, director,DRDO, said, adding that an inquiry had been  ordered to ascertain the cause of fire.

PXE having several facilities is a DRDO laboratory that conducts testing and proofing of arms and ammunition. 

Integrated Test Range (ITR), the missile testing facility of DRDO is not very far from PXE.
