Five Maoists arrested in Gumla

Police on Thursday arrested five Maoists, including a self-styled CPI (Maoist) area commander who was allegedly involved in the killing of ten policemen and five villagers, at Kotam village in Gumla district.

Acting on a tip-off, the police raided the village and arrested Dilip Oraon, the self-styled area commander and four of his squad members, the Superintendent of Police, Jatin Narwal, told reporters here.

Narawal said, during interrogation Oraon confessed that he had been instrumental in the Maoist attack on the police that had killed nine personnel in 2001, shooting dead a hawaldar and murder of five villagers some years ago at separate places in the district.

The police recovered several posters of Maoist slogans from them, he said.
