Five persons have been detained for questioning in connection with the investigation into the gang-rape of a female constable on Wednesday night in Jharkhand’s Latehar district, superintendent of police Michael S Raj said on Saturday.
On Wednesday night, three highway robbers believed to be part of a gang of six to seven had pulled out the constable out of the car in which she was travelling with her parents who lived had gone to Ranchi to bring the body of one of their relatives shot dead by criminals.

The constable lost her husband to Maoist violence and was given a job on compensatory grounds.
“We are trying hard to identify the criminals involved in this shameful act. We are conducting raids at various places to arrest suspects and we expect a breakthrough soon,” Raj said.
The highway, 9km from Latehar town, has been infamous for frequent traffic jams. In June, a Latehar surgeon had been robbed near this place and according to unconfirmed reports, molested too.
