Security has been beefed up in the city with intensified patrolling and checking of places of accommodation to prevent anti-social elements from creating any law and order issues, police said.
The measures come at a time when political uncertainty has gripped the state following Chief Minister O Panneerselvam’s revolt against AIADMK chief V K Sasikala.
“The officers of Chennai Police have been instructed to conduct round-the-clock checks of lodges, mansions, service apartments and kalyana mandapams (marriage halls) to prevent anti-socials and rowdy elements from taking shelter with the intention to create law and order issues,” a police release said.
Round-the clock surveillance and intensive vehicle checks have been put in place to “prevent the movement and influx of anti-socials,” it said.
Police Commissioner S George has instructed all the senior police officers to actively supervise the execution of the preventive measures, the release added.
Incidentally, George, state Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan, Director General of Police T K Rajendran, and George had yesterday met Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao at the Raj Bhavan here and apprised him of the present political situation in the state.
Meanwhile, security has also been stepped up at the Raj Bhavan.
