Haryana food and supply minister Mahender Pratap Singh on Tuesday said that under the national food security ordinance, 2013, the monthly off take of wheat would increase to 67000 MT from the previous average monthly off take of 43000 MT.

Replying to a calling attention notice, he said that the earlier coverage, in terms of population under targeted public distribution system (TPDS), in Haryana was 54.41 lakh while over 72 lakh more beneficiaries would be covered in the state who would receive foodgrains as per their entitlements.

He said that the ordinance classified eligible households(beneficiaries) into two categories, namely, Antodaya Anna Yojna (AAY) households and priority households. The total beneficiaries under the ordinance in Haryana was over 1.26 crore out of which 90.28 lakh were in rural areas and 36.21 lakh in urban areas.
