Apparently depressed over his financial state, a former cricketer on Wednesday allegedly committed suicide in Talkatora area here, police said.

Shivesh Ranjan Majoomdar (32) allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his Rajajipuram colony residence yesterday, they said.

He was disturbed over his financial condition that had also led to domestic disputes, police said, adding a suicide note was recovered from his room.

Majoomdar was an adhoc employee at Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) for last eight years and earning Rs. 3,000 per month.

He had represented Lucknow University in North Zone Inter-University cricket championship in 1997 and for almost five years before taking up umpiring.
