Four tremors were felt in Delhi and surrounding areas early on Tuesday.

The first tremor of magnitude 3.1 was felt in Delhi and occured at 12.41am. Its epicentre was Delhi, according to an IMD report.

A second earthquake of magnitude 3.3 was felt in the city, within an hour of the first, at around 1.41am according to PTI.

This was followed by three more tremors of 3.3, 2.5 and 2.8 magnitude at 1.41am, 1.55am and 3.40am, the report said.

Twitter was immediately flooded with hundreds of people tweeting about their experience, asking each other if they had felt the quake.

"@htTweets yes i felt it in jungpura" tweeted Dr Hafeezur Rahman in response to a tweet by the Hindustan Times, asking if people had felt the earthquake.

"@htTweets yea ..did feel it ..v short duration. .thankfully" reponded another reader, Sajid Pervez (@sajidspeak03).

Much of the Twitterati, though, was as its usual self, cracking jokes on the quick tweets about the earthquake.

"Suddenly my wife woke up and said "earthquake" I calmly checked #Twitter and replied "Yes"" tweeted Ishan Prakash (@ishanprakash).

But Tweeple don't need a reason to bring out their wits, and that was the case here too as many came up with jokes in general over the earthquake.

"#Earthquake in Delhi ?? Dont worry must be #SunnyDeol practicing his next movie @SinghSaabTheGr8 's screem scene" tweeted Divya Solgama. (@DIVYASOLGAMA)

Not everyone felt the first slight, easy-to-miss tremor. Many readers responded saying they didn't feel the earthquake. Others tweeted about finding out about the earthquake from Twitter.

However, most tweeted about feeling the second tremor, expressing fear and concern.
