Jammu: Four killed, 12 injured in fire at hotel

At least four people were killed and dozen others seriously injured in a fire at a Jammu hotel early Saturday morning.


"Out of the injured persons, four succumbed to critical burn injuries and smoke poisoning. Twelve injured persons are being treated at the Jammu Medical College Hospital", a senior police officer told IANS in Jammu.

Police said that the fire occurred in Hotel Neelam near the main bus stand in Jammu city, a kilometre from city centre Shaheedi Chowk. "The fire started after midnight. Immediately after smoke started billowing out of the hotel building fire tenders and rescue personnel reached the spot."

Witnesses said the fire started from a store room in the ground floor of the hotel where vehicle tyres had been stored. Reports also said the owner of the hotel is also a local transporter.

Senior district and provincial administration officials rushed to the spot to supervise rescue and relief operations as nearly a dozen fire tenders worked to bring the blaze under control.

Police to conduct polygraphic test on DIG Paraskar

The Mumbai crime branch has sent a letter to deputy inspector general Sunil Paraskar in a bid to seek his permission to conduct a polygraphic and lie detector tests on him. While the police are awaiting a response from Paraskar, the officials said that they would soon approach the court to seek its permission.
