With a bulk of legislative business still in hand, the NDA government is mulling the option of extending the ongoing Budget session of parliament for a few days.

Sources added that the government may consider continuing the session till 19-22 August. The session was initially scheduled to end on August 14.

The government, till a few days ago, was seen to be lacking in its legislative business. But now, key legislation like the Judicial Appointments Commission bill, IIIT bill, Apprenticeship bill and Factories bill are still pending before the House.

In the BJP’s Parliamentary party meeting, Parliamentary affairs minister Venkaiah Naidu asked members to be prepared for a longer session.

“The opposition has been disrupting the house. The government has some key bills to pass and, if needed, the session may be extended,” senior BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy said after the meeting.
