The central government might no longer talk to militant groups in the Northeast and elsewhere in India. The move is in view of the 'tendency' of these outfits to form factions after peace initiatives.

"We might take a decision to stop holding talks with any militant group," said Shambhu Singh, MHA joint secretary in charge of north-eastern states said following a tripartite discussion with the Meghalaya-based A'chik National Volunteers Council outfit last Saturday.

The reason: “Every time we talk to one group some members break away to form another, continue their illegal activities and then want the same opportunity as before to put across their demands, which are basically non-existent," he said.
