While addressing mediapersons, Hooda said the state government had decided to provide 2.5-kg pulses per month at the rate of Rs. 20 per kg to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, to meet their nutritional needs.

He said Haryana had 9,174 fair price shops through which the beneficiaries were currently supplied subsidised food grains. However, the number of beneficiary families after the implementation of the ordinance would increase from 12 lakh to 27.84 lakh, he said and added that on an average, one fair price shop had 638 ration cards against the capacity of 1,200 to 1,300 ration cards. Thus, the state had enough infrastructures to successfully implement the scheme, he said.

Hooda said a committee had been constituted under the chairmanship of chief secretary PK Chaudhery to work out modalities for inclusion of more beneficiaries under the scheme and the committee would submit its report within one week.

Hooda said special emphasis had been laid on nutritional support to women and children in the ordinance and earlier a scheme had been implemented in Panchkula district only with maternity benefit of Rs. 4,000, which now, would be rolled out in the entire state, benefiting all pregnant women and lactating mothers with increased amount of Rs. 6,000.
