The Haryana government will spend a sum of Rs. 12 crore for upgrading sports infrastructure in the state under new 'Sports Policy' during the current financial year.

Principal secretary, sports and youth affairs department, Amit Jha, announced this while addressing the players during opening ceremony of three-day state level Women Championship Group-1 at Karnal Stadium here on Wednesday.

To train the promising sportsmen of the district, the government has also planned to open a modern sport facility here.

Jha has asked the district administration to identify a project of a sports nursery or academy in the district.

“The state government is ready to open sport facility for Karnal. I have asked the local administration to chalk out a plan and identify land for the same. I assure you that the proposal will be executed at the earliest,” Jha said.

He said that the government was committed to boost sports at village level.

“The state government has decided to appoint 750 coaches and theses experts will be from the National Institute of Sports (NIS), Patiala,” he said.

“We have planned to recruit these coaches at various sporting facilities up to the village level across the districts,” Jha said. The process to appoint 500 coaches had already begun, he added.

The official said that it was encouraging to notice women participation in various sporting events at national and international level.

“The state government has announced to recruit the award winners in the departments of sports, education, panchayat and development,” he said.

To promote games, the central government was providing ample funds for sporting equipments at village level, he added.
