Gujarat police has started a child helpline at the women’s police station here for those wanting to report offences related to children, police officials said on Tuesday.

“Though there is no dedicated phone line for child related matters, we have made public announcement and asked people to call the women police station to report offences against children,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), incharge of the women police station, Usha Rada told PTI.

A special children’s room with cartoons painted on the walls and toys has been set up where the kids brought there are kept before sending them to juvenile home.

“In the women police station in Karanj area we have built a special room where the walls are painted with cartoon characters to make the children who are brought here more comfortable,” she said.

“We have toys in the children’s room to keep them engaged. As such the children who have been abused or were forced into labour work are under shock, the atmosphere in the children room would help them relax,” Rada said.

She said that the children’s room was a temporary place where the kids rescued from their tormentors are kept before sending them to juvenile home.
