Six soldiers injured, one of them is critical, in an exchange of fire between security forces and militants in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday evening, a police official said.

“Cordon at Awanira in Shopian. Some exchange of fire,” Jammu and Kashmir police Twitter handle wrote.

Since July 30, 14 militants have been killed in encounters with security forces in Kashmir. Five other infiltrators were gunned down along the LoC by the army in Machil sector on August 7.
The state has been witnessing violent protests and clashes since the death of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani last year in July.
Petrol bomb attack in Srinagar
One person was injured when a petrol bomb was thrown at Badyari Chowk in Srinagar, police said.
“One person identified as Imtiyaz Ahmed got injured,” a police spokesperson said.
Ahmed has been admitted in SMHS hospital in the city Srinagar and his condition is stable.
A search is on for the attackers and further details awaited.
