A 19-year-old call centre employee returning home from a friend’s birthday party was allegedly raped by a property dealer and his two friends in his office in Gurgaon after he offered her a lift at around midnight Tuesday.

Property dealer Dinesh, 21, his partner in a mobile accessories shop Naveen, also 21, and 30-year-old Satyadev, a driver with a prominent school in Gurgaon, were arrested on Wednesday morning.

According to the police, the woman, who worked in Jahangirpuri, Delhi, left her house in Samaspur village, close to Sector 46 in New Gurgaon,  for her friend’s party in Sushant Lok, a tony residential area, at around 9pm.  At midnight, a few friends dropped the woman, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, at Sector 46 crossing from where she started walking home.

On her way, she met Dinesh who was on a bike and offered her a lift. The woman knew him, as she would often go to his shop to get her mobile recharged. “She requested him to take her to a chemist as she was unwell but he took her to his Sector 46 office where his two friends were waiting for them,” officiating Gurgaon police commissioner Maheshwar Dayal said.

Dinesh asked her to rest and then offered her a cold drink, which was spiked and left the woman unconscious. The three then took turns to rape her and fled the office, leaving the woman behind, the police said. “After she gained consciousness, she realised she was raped and informed the police control room,” Dayal said. Medical tests have confirmed rape.

The incident came to light on a day when the Supreme Court, hearing a PIL, expressed concern over rise in crime against women. The Centre told the court that such crimes had doubled in the Capital in the last five years.
