The vice-president of an IT firm stabbed his wife with a kitchen knife at least 10 times in his rented apartment in Gurgaon on Sunday morning. Their eight-year-old daughter was the lone witness to the brutal episode.

Rajneesh K Singh, 44, is the vice-president of the Gurgaon-based SharedReach Mobility Services and a pass-out of IIM-Ahmedabad. His wife Shweta ran a day-care facility in DLF Phase 4.

The incident took place in an apartment in Parsavnath’s Green Ville on Sohna Road. Police said that Singh himself called them to surrender.

Vivek Sharma, joint commissioner (crime) said, “As soon as we received the call, we rushed to the spot. The accused was sitting with his 10-month-old son outside the house. The body was lying in the kitchen in a pool of blood.”

Although a probe is on, sources said Singh suspected Shweta of infidelity. A family friend, on the condition of anonymity, told HT that the couple had been happily married until two years ago. “They had been fighting almost every day, so much so that Rajneesh’s mother had to ask them to move out of her home,” he said.

The couple met through a matrimonial website and got married in 2005. They have three children.

On Sunday morning, the couple had got embroiled in yet another argument. Things took an ugly turn when an enraged Singh got hold of a knife and stabbed Shweta multiple times in front of their daughter. After calling the police, he phoned his mother who rushed to their home and found a traumatised eight-year-old.

Surprisingly, the neighbours did not hear any noise although the fight lasted close to half an hour.

“We have arrested the accused and he will be produced in a city court on Monday. The post-mortem will be conducted on Monday,” said Sharma.

Shweta belongs to Himachal Pradesh and her family will reach Gurgaon on Monday.
