A 50-year-old man in a Mercedes was arrested on Tuesday for assaulting a policewoman after she pulled him over for driving on the wrong side of the Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road. He was later released on bail.
Rajeev Karwal, an entrepreneur and resident of Gurgaon, fled the spot after the altercation Monday night. He was arrested the following day after an FIR was registered based on the
complaint of the assistant sub inspector, who is in charge of the Gurgaon Police’s quick reaction team. She had taken down his registration number, police said.
According to the police, the ASI — manning a barricade near MGF Metropolitan Mall with three female colleagues — noticed the errant Mercedes and tried to stop it.
At this, Karwal allegedly started abusing her and leaning out of his window, pulled her and pushed her back before driving past.
Repeated attempts to contact Karwal on his mobile phone and email went unanswered.
He has been booked for criminal intimidation, insulting the modesty of a woman, assault, using obscene language, rash driving and obstructing a public servant from doing his/her duty.
"We arrested the accused. He was driving rashly and misbehaved with a woman cop, an act that cannot be tolerated. He fled the spot but the car number helped us nab him,” DCP (east) Nazneen Bhasin said.
