In the second stab-and-grab robbery in Gurgaon in 24 hours, masked men broke into a house in Sector 31 early Thursday and took off with cash and jewellery after stabbing four of its inmates.
Shyam Kumar, 64, was stabbed repeatedly in the stomach and has been hospitalized in critical condition with a ruptured intestine. His wife Shagun, 60, son Rajat, 38, and daughter-in-law Anuradha were also stabbed — watched by Kumar’s two-year-old grandson — but are out of danger.
The robbers struck at around 3.15am. Three of them snuck into a first-floor store room after entering from an adjacent vacant plot using a ladder, while a fourth kept vigil outside, according to the police. They left an hour later, after changing their bloody clothes and shoes.
On Tuesday night, four armed men had held a Delhi high court lawyer hostage in his DLF City Phase 3 home, stabbed and robbed him of cash and mobile phones. The police suspect the same gang at work and said its modus operandi was to target homes in posh localities. They have got footage from a petrol pump CCTV that caught the gang’s escape and have spoken to a neighbour who saw the same.
“We have registered a case and are investigating,” said Inspector Jai Prakash, station house officer at Sector 40. “Our teams are working hard to apprehend this gang. We have got some important clues through CCTV footage,” said commissioner Alok Mittal.
