Hamirpur admn crack down on mining mafia

The district administration has decided to wield the stick against illegal mining following a large number of complaints on illegal mining activities, going on in various parts of the district.


During a surprise raid conducted by Hamirpur additional district magistrate (ADM) Himanshu Shekhar Chaudhary in Bharmoti area of Nadaun revenue subdivision of the district on Tuesday, two JCB machines and two tractors were confiscated that were being used by the mining mafia to extract material from the khud.

Assisted by Nadaun sub-divisional magistrate Balbir Thakur and a team of police personnel, Chaudhary personally took action and directed the mining department to ensure that no mining took place near bridges and drinking water supply schemes in the district.He said the defaulters would be booked under the law of land and severe punishment would be granted.

Chaudhary urged people to report about illegal mining to the district administration either on phone or in writing.The ADM also visited many khuds and Beas River area of the district and came cracking down on the mining mafia. Mining is strictly banned in most of the khuds of the district as per the orders of the state government.
