Rajendra Rana, Independent MLA from Sujanpur assembly constituency of the district, has taken up the cause of the ex-servicemen and serving soldiers of Himachal Pradesh in a letter written to union defense minister AK Antony and chief minister Virbhadra Singh.

Rana has asked them to take up various demands of the serving soldiers and ex-servicemen on priority basis and provide them justice.

He also demanded to set up a Himalayan regiment for the people of the Himalayan states so that they were able to get adequate recruitment in the Indian army.

He had also asked for restoration of HP quota in the Indian army that was slashed from 12% to 6% during 1972.

Rana has stated that while serving soldiers were guarding the borders of the nation with utmost care, the ex-servicemen of the state had already done a lot for the nation and even now they were doing yeomen's service by taking part in the development of their respective areas through environmental protection; helping the suffering humanity and working in different panchayati raj institutions.

He has also demanded shifting of the centre of Dogra regimental from Faizabad to Una for the benefit and welfare of the people.

The Independent MLA has also demanded setting up of a military university at Sujanpur Tira on the analogy of military school already set up for the children of the serving solders and ex-servicemen.
