Having waved black flags at BJP chief Amit Shah and attempted a gherao of state education minister Ram Bilas Sharma, Haryana JBT teachers awaiting joining for the past two-and-a-half years on Monday wrote a letter in blood to Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighting their ordeal.

As many as 15 teachers contributed their blood and wrote the letter requesting PM Modi to intervene and help them get their joining so they could run their households. “We are 12,731 JBT teachers awaiting joining. We include 7,000 women... Whenever we demand joining from the government, we get lathicharged instead,” the letters read.

On Sunday, the teachers, who are a group of men and women who have passed the Junior Basic Training (JBT) course, had attempted to gherao the residence of education minister Ram Bilas Sharma in Mahendragarh. However, the police had stopped them and had resorted to lathicharge injuring a few of the protesters.

“We were selected in August 2014. But till now we have not got joining. This is not only affecting us but also primary schools across Haryana where there are no teachers for students,” said Kishore Jawaliya, the president of JBT Teachers Sangharsh Samiti.

“We have been lathicharged five times. If the government does not act right now, we will initiate a big protest,” he warned.
